Major Malfunction at Eastern Part of Open-Pit Mine Kolubara, Field “E”

At the eastern part of the open-pit mine Kolubara, field “E”, on January 24, in the afternoon, an existing landslide activated and the production activities of the “Glodar 7” excavator, which excavates coal at the BTU system, has been stopped for the time being, Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced.

They add that the repair teams went to the site as fast as possible and that the production of coal at the Kolubara Mining Basin branch is not jeopardized.

– There are no injured workers and the supply of the settlements in the zone of the mining works with electrical energy has not been affected – says EPS.

The works on the site are in progress, and once the earth that has partially trapped one of the external tracks is removed, the excavator is expected to be transported to the location where, in the next ten days or so, the previously planned preventive mechanical works are to be done. The operations of the “Glodar 8” excavator will be increase, and “Glodar 2” will be put into operation on Friday as well, in order to compensate for the quantities of the coal excavated by “Glodar 7”.

– The operations of all the production capacities of EPS are stable, and there are 1.48 million tons of coal at the disposal sites of the thermal power plants, which is 5.4% more than planned and the disposal sites are fully ready. The supply of the citizens and the economy with electrical energy is secure, and in January, EPS exported EUR 12.4 million worth of electrical energy. The export of electrical energy will continue in the coming days as well, at the rate of 7-10 GWh a day – they point out at EPS.
