Trade Union: Workers at Falck East Stop Machines for One Hour, Demanding Salary Raises

The workers of the Italian footwear factory Falck East, which has a facility in Knjazevac, held a one-hour warning strike by stopping the machines at their work places, demanding salary raises and better work conditions, the trade union Sloga announced.

This trade union, the only representative one at the factory, also announced the possibility of the radicalization of the protest, by having the workers gather with their families in front of the factory in case the employer from Italy didn’t adopt their requests.

This means, they say, that the employees’ dissatisfaction could grow into a general strike.

– At the moment, the majority of the workers at this factory has salaries at the minimum wage level plus a bonus for shift work, which, due to the growing inflation and the high prices, is insufficient to cover the most basic living costs, such as food, electricity and other utility services – Sloga says.

The workers employed at the Italian company which bought the former footwear factory Leda expressed their dissatisfaction in 2017 as well, when over 600 of them held a one-hour warning strike within the factory complex, demanding the signing of a collective contract and the dismissal of the production manager, which resulted in negotiations and the signing of a collective contract.
