Self-Extinguishing Paper Mandatory on All Cigarettes in Serbia from This Year

All cigarettes produced in or imported to Serbia from January 1, 2023, must feature self-extinguishing paper, according to the new Rulebook on Determining the List of Standards in the Field of General Product Safety, which has come into effect.

The possibility of cigarettes which don’t meet this requirement being present in the market in the coming period is envisaged only in the case of stock supplies produced or imported before January 1, 2023.

The replacement of regular paper with the self-extinguishing kind, which does not affect the flavor of the cigarette, is part of the process of harmonizing with the EU standards, with the aim of reducing the possibility of fires caused by unextinguished cigarettes to a minimum.
