The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, announced today the introduction of transit routes for trucks, to the end of preserving traffic routes.

He said on TV Pink that transit routes would be on highways and that this would also prevent the drivers of foreign trucks from using local traffic routes instead of highways in an attempt to avoid paying the road toll.

He added that such cases of getting off the highway had been particularly frequently recorded near the Sid and Batrovici border crossings with Croatia.

Vesic said that, “in order to save”, the drivers of local trucks often overloaded their vehicles and he announced that their load-bearing capacity would be controlled with the help of automatic scales.
