Between March 20, 2022, when the Belgrade-Novi Sad fast railway opened to traffic, and January 3, 2023, a total of 2,305,175 passengers chose this option for traveling between the two cities, stated the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure, Goran Vesic.

Of that number, the Soko trains transported 1,318,174 passengers.

It is precisely thanks to the construction of the fast railway that the year 2022 is a historic turning point in the development of Serbian railways and the operations of the company Srbija Voz, said minister Vesic.

The opening of the Belgrade-Novi Sad fast railway has changed the image of the company Srbija Voz and the rail system in general, in the country and the region.

– It’s interesting that research shows that as many as two thirds of the citizens of Serbia primarily associate the word “Soko” with the fast train – Vesic pointed out.

– The number of over 1.2 million citizens of Serbia who used the fast train between Belgrade and Novi Sad in only nine months best shows how popular these trains will be when they start traveling to Subotica, Nis and Budapest – Vesic pointed out.

He said that there were maximum efforts to build the fast railway section from Novi Sad to Subotica, so that, as soon as 2025, we could travel from Belgrade to Budapest by fast train in only two hours and 45 minutes.

– In the upcoming year, there will be great investments in railways, in the reconstruction and construction of new railways. The railway system will be increasingly more competitive, more and more goods and people will be transported by trains, and the railways will get the place in the transport system that they deserve – said minister Vesic.
