Ekoloski Ustanak: We Won’t Allow the Resurrection of the Jadar Project

The organization Ekoloski Ustanak, which is part of the “Zajedno” coalition, has announced that “at the mass demonstrations in December 2021, the citizens of Serbia expressed their opinion” and that the protection of “the environment has no price”, as well as that “there will be no excavation of lithium in Serbia”.

The press release estimates that, following the most recent public address by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who talked about the advantages of the excavation of lithium and the possibility of employing a large number of people, “it seems that a resurrection rite is being prepared for the Jadar project”, which the organizations say they will not allow.

– In a surge of heartbreaking affection for mining, Aleksandar Vucic allowed himself to make an untrue statement saying that the Jadar lithium exploitation project would employ 4,000 to 5,000 people, whereas the actual number is only around 700 employees, and once again offended the majority of Serbian citizens by calling them “the only ones stupid enough not to want to do so” – the press release says.
