Association of Entrepreneurs and Business People Requests Stop to Closing of Legal Businesses

The association “Zastitnik preduzetnika i privrednika Srbije” (“Protector of Entrepreneurs and Business People of Serbia”) has filed an initiative to the ministers of finance and economy to have the stipulation about the closing of operating businesses removed, because they believe that it violates the constitutional right to work.

– Legally registered business entities in Serbia are subject to frequent controls by inspection organs. We are witnesses to the practice of having legal outlets often closed for 15 or more days, even when it’s down to administrative-technical problems, and not essential violations or evasions – the association says in a press release.

It is pointed out that business people are also exposed to very high financial penalties, whereby it is not taken into account what the economic power of the business entity is.

– At the same time, unregistered entities, which comprise the shadow economy and unfair competition, are rarely controlled, and the financial penalties for them are very small – points out the association, which expects the Ministry of Economy to establish a business environment in which it will be more profitable to operate legally than as part of the shadow market.

As they estimate, the key role in this is played by inspection organs, which should act in an advisory capacity and be partners to the legal economy which pays them, and a repressive factor toward the unregistered market.
