Works on First Critical Point on the Danube in Bulgaria from Next Week

The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic has announced that, in the first half of next week, our ships will reach the first critical points in Bulgaria, where intervention excavation works will begin.

Momirovic said that representatives of the ministry would visit our workers in Bulgaria the next week so as to make sure on the spot how the works are progressing, but also to provide all the necessary support to the people who went to another country to do everything to secure the stability of the Serbian economy due to the urgency of the situation.

Considering the specificity of the job that the Serbian mechanization should do in Bulgaria, in order to secure a regular supply of coal to TENT, the import of Euro diesel, artificial fertilizer, as well as the export of agricultural products, full cooperation with the relevant state organs in Bulgaria has been established, the minister noted.

A convoy of technical mechanization bearing the Serbian flag set out from Serbia on Wednesday and should arrive to the first excavation position in Bulgaria in the first half of next week.

In the meantime, the team of hydrographers from Serbia who arrived to Bulgaria at the end of last week, has done hydrography barometric measurements to the end of determining the exact state of the navigable waterway and planning the excavation works.

In the past period, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has signed agreements with the competent ministries in Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina which entail joint hydrotechnical and excavation works on the critical sectors when it comes to navigation on the Danube and the Sava.


The agreement on the manner of financing and preparation of the project-technical documentation, the managing of the administrative procedures for an environmental impact assessment, the issuing of location requirements, authorization and building permit for the project “Hydrotechnical and Excavation Works on Ameliorating the Critical Navigation Sector – Confluence of the Drina and the Sava” was signed on September 9 between the Government of Serbia and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The agreement on cooperation on the technical maintenance of the Danube waterway was signed between the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria on September 3.
