Tachograph with memory card for transport of goods and people in international traffic becomes mandatory on January 1, 2011

Starting from December 31, 2010, the road vehicles that are registered in the Republic of Serbia and have a digital tachograph installed will not be able to transport goods and passengers in international traffic if the driver of such vehicle does not have a memory card, the Ministry of Infrastructure wrote in its letter no. 336-00-00022/2010-01 of December 27, 2010.

Professional drivers in Serbia cannot own such card since a system of digital tachographs in the Republic of Serbia has not been established. According to aforementioned letter, a system of digital tachographs is expected to be established in the Republic of Serbia in 2011.

An obligation of all countries signatories to the AETR agreement on working and break hours for drivers was to establish a system of digital tachographs by the end of this year. Several countries, including Serbia, failed to establish the system prior to the deadline so that the UN Economic Commission for Europe was asked to extend that deadline, which it refused to do.
