The Danube is navigable for its entire length through Serbia, but the halt of navigation down that river in Bulgaria is a great problem, stated the minister of construction, traffic and infrastructure of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic.

In a statement for RTS, he confirmed that 1.2 million tons of coal, 400,000 tons of grains, as well as a great amount of raw materials for the metal and chemical industries, which were supposed to arrive to Serbia, were stuck due to that.

He stated that, the next day, an agreement would be signed with the Government of Bulgaria entailing Serbia’s aid to that country in carrying out all the works necessary for the navigability of the Danube to be ensured, which should allow the coal and the grains to arrive to Serbia, it is said on the website of the ministry.

Momirovic reminded that the river traffic on the Danube had not been stopped at any moment on any section of the river, thanks to the timely preparations and intervention excavation works. However, as he said, it is a shared corridor and, in this case, a shared problem, because, when the river is not navigable in Bulgaria, Serbia does not have full operability either.
