Serbia Pronounced Best Destination in Europe for Passengers with Small Budgets

Two years of Covid measures, the war in Ukraine and the dramatic increase in the price of fuel will shape this year’s trends when it comes to travel. Incited by these trends, the Kayak platform has developed an all-encompassing Road Trip Index for 2022, that is, a unique database providing insight into the special characteristics of each country, information about fuel prices, road safety, environmental impact, cultural possibilities and many other things.

The analysis and ranking were done for 33 European countries observing 24 individual factors. Those countries were then grouped into five types of travel – pricing, traffic & sustainability, camping, safety & infrastructure and nature & landmarks.

Among the best rated countries in those five groups is Serbia, as the best destination for passengers with small budgets. The Netherlands won in the category of sustainable travel, France in the camping and nature & landmarks categories, and Switzerland is the leading country when it comes to safety & infrastructure.

Serbia cheapest for those who come by car

Serbia is the first in the category of budget travel, which ranks countries by pricing factors such as fuel, can rental, accommodation and road tolls. In the light of the increase in the price of energy, this means the Serbia could attract more foreign tourists this summer for whom this is an important factor when planning a trip. Kayak notes that, along with all the benefits for drivers, Serbia also provides impressively reasonable hotel prices – it is second after Lithuania, cheap car rental services and parking which is considered the cheapest in Europe.

– Our Road Trip Index helps travelers by providing a detailed analysis of various factors and guides them through a great selection of European destinations so that they could make the best decision – director Laure Bornet says in the platform’s press release.

On the overall list of road trip destinations for 2022, Serbia placed 24th, with Greece ahead of us, whereas, of the neighboring countries, Romania is 20th, and Bulgaria is 16th. The best ranking country in the region is Croatia, which placed 14th.

Germany best destination for drivers

Germany placed first in the 2022 ranking, with high results in factors such as safety & infrastructure and nature & landmarks. Germany is a paradise for cars, with its big road network, its large number of stations for the charging of electric vehicles and the fact that it has fewer traffic accidents to 100,000 residents than most other countries on the list.
