The Chinese company Zijin, which manages the Bor mine, has announced, regarding its operations in Serbia, that it invests in technologies, complies with the laws and takes care of ecology.

The company said that it “carries out activities in Serbia strictly in line with the laws, in line with the highest world standards in mining and metallurgy and in environmental protection”.

The company invested more than USD 1.2 billion in modernizing the processes at the former RTB Bor, of which more than USD 170 million in environmental protection, the press release adds.

– This way, we have largely solved the decades-long problem of the polluted air in Bor – the press release says.

It is pointed out that “the values of all emissions are within the proscribed limits, and very often far below those limits”.

– At the end of the year, new systems at the smelter will be put into operation, which will solve the inherited problems of collecting and treating dust particles from the smelting process in an all-encompassing manner – the press release says.

The company also said that it had built a new facility for the treatment of waste waters from metallurgy processing and a facility for the treatment of waste waters from the mines Veliki Krivelj and Novo Cerovo. They said that they had also built a facility for the treatment of waste waters from the Jama mine and a facility for the treatment of waste waters from the Northern Area of the Majdanpek mine.

– This way, we have solved the inherited problems of inadequate treatment of mining and processing waste waters and prevented the further infiltration of heavy metals and other harmful components into the environment – the press release adds.
