The members of the National Assembly of Serbia have adopted the new Law on the Protection from Environmental Noise, which is fully harmonized with the European regulations in this field, announced the minister of environmental protection of Serbia, Irena Vujovic.

Vujovic said that the law defined, in more detail, what environmental noise is, that it expanded the list of the sources of noise, as well as the authorities for the preparation of the strategic noise maps, and added that its implementation would contribute to a more efficient solving of this problem and an improved quality of life for the citizens.

Strategic noise maps, she pointed out, are the foundations for the preparation of action plans and the means of notifying the citizens of the level of noise in the environment and its harmful effects. The deadline for the adoption of action plans is one year from the date of the adoption of the strategic noise maps.

The minister said that one of the reasons for the adoption of the new law was also to solve the problem of excessive noise from hospitality facilities.

– Under the law, in addition to authorized legal entities, the municipal police are now also authorized to control the noise which comes from hospitality facilities, using calibrated noise-measuring devices, in line with the decision of the local self-government unit – Vujovic specified.

Also, she added, the obligation of the initial measuring of the noise is now implemented, which means that the owner or the renter of the hospitality facility is obliged to ensure the first measuring of the noise in the location, obtain the report and, as per need, carry out the measures of sound protection.
