Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic has stated, during her visit to Mali Zvornik where she visited the reconstructed Zvornik Hydroelectric Power Plant and the new heating plant, that the working priorities of the Ministry are investing in and supporting those capacities which utilize renewable sources for electricity and heat production.

- The heating plant in Mali Zvornik, together with the heating plant that is currently being built in Priboj, will be the first in Serbia to use biomass as an energy source. The heating plant will start trial operation on October 1 in order to be ready for the upcoming heating season, during which the citizens of Mali Zvornik will have heating 24/7, but, just as important, there will be no losses in the energy network and we will have a healthier environment. CO2 emissions will be reduced from the current 870 to 40 tons, so we will have 95% less emissions. Mali Zvornik is an example of what heating plants should look like in other municipalities in Serbia, we should have enough thermal energy, use it efficiently and have a healthy environment. Another important thing is the reconstruction of the HPP. In addition to having a higher production capacity and higher installed capacity, the lifespan of the hydroelectric power plant has been extended for an additional 40 years - the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized, as per the statement published on the Ministry's website.

On that occasion, she also spoke about cooperation with Germany in the energy field.

- The fact is that we have been cooperating with KfW since 2001 and that the value of joint projects is close to EUR 1.5 billion, heating plants in Novi Pazar and Majdanpek are also included. The role of EPS is just as important. It is a company that will successfully deal with all challenges in the coming years and which will play an important role in the green energy production - she said.
