The Belgrade public transport company GSP Beograd has completed the procurement of a hundred articulated buses powered by natural gas, stated the deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic.

– Within the legal deadline, two companies had submitted bids, both of them from Europe, one of them from the European Union. In the upcoming period, the commission will analyze both bids and reach the decision as to who the best bidder is. As promised, Belgrade will buy a hundred new articulated buses powered by natural gas this year and that is only the beginning of the fulfilment of the promise of having no vehicles within the public transport system using diesel fuel by 2030 – Vesic said.

– The terms of this tender were such that we’ve asked for the buses to be leased and, considering that we’ve used all the European benefits, we will get the opportunity to have 10% of all the funds we spend be repaid to GSP Beograd in case the new buses replace the old diesel ones, which will happen – he pointed out.

The plan is for five hundred such buses, single or articulated ones, to be bought in the next five years, so that there would be a total of six hundred of them in the rolling stock of the city’s public transport company, Vesic announced.

The deputy mayor reminded that ten electric buses were bought in 2021 and that the procurement of those vehicles continued as well.

– Considering that we will have the first subway line in 2028 and the second in 2030, along with the expansion of the BG Voz system, Belgrade will be a city without a single diesel-powered vehicle in its public transport system, so the pollution will be at zero – Vesic said, as reported by Beoinfo.

The tendering for the purchase of new trams is also being prepared in a summary procedure.

– We are in the final phase and I expect that, in the upcoming period, we will be able to present the plan for the replacement of all the old trams, of which there are over a hundred in Belgrade – Vesic said.
