Italian Terna Interested in Investments in RES and Creation of New Energy Hub

(Illustration) The Italian company Terna is interested in investing in renewable energy sources and taking part in strategic energy projects in Serbia.

The deputy prime minister and minister of mining and energy, Zorana Mihajlovic, has talked to the company’s representatives about investments in the field of energy.

She said that Serbia was open to new investments in energy and that there was room for talks about new projects.

– This is practically a new ministry, because, by adopting four laws, we have created entirely different conditions for the process of energy transition. In that process, we want to cooperate with the best companies in the field of energy. Our investment plan in the field of energy and mining encompasses projects worth EUR 17 billion, of which an important part pertains to electrical energy and RES. So, there is rooms for cooperation and you are welcome to work with us – she said.

Mihajlovic said that the Trans-Balkans Corridor and other connections were the key to regional connecting, which is also part of the vision of the green agenda and secures energy stability.

Giovanni Cerchiarini, the head of the international operations of Terna, said that, in addition to the cooperation with EMS, which is important to the whole region, there was also the possibility of the company taking part in increasing the use of RES.


– The Trans-Balkans Corridor is very important to both states, but also the region. We want to strengthen the cooperation with EMS, and we also want to take part in strategic projects, because we see Serbia as an energy hub – he said.

Carlo Lo Cascio, the ambassador of Italy to Serbia, pointed out that the importance of cooperation in the energy sector, which will influence the overall economic relations. He also said that the Government of Italy supported this and added that this was a field with plenty of opportunities for the development of economic relations.
