Inter-Mehanika from Smederevo, which is engaged in production and provision of services for railways, plans to invest 1.2 million euros in expansion of production capacities within the next year. The investment will enable employment of 30 workers, and people in the factory in Smederevo also hope that turnover in foreign markets will be increased.

- We have obtained the loan through the Development Fund of Serbia to buy the space that we have been renting in Smederevo. We are going to have a hall of 3,000 square meters built in that place and we will use our own materials in its construction since we are already producing building structures. We also plan to put in operation a new line for production of freight containers – Ružica Đurđević, the owner of Inter-Mehanika, told eKapija.

Inter-Mehanika, which has 60 permanent and 20 temporary employees, has been repairing brakes on railway vehicles in foreign markets since 2005, primarily for the needs of Romanian companies. The company also produces automated test tables for testing brakes in Smederevo for several workshops in Hungary.

- We are close to finish the overhaul of cars for the Serbian Railways, and we also participated in the last year's programme of the Government of Serbia for stimulating production and overhaul of railway vehicles and the railway car building revival – Đurđević points out.

She points out that Inter-Mehanika has an excellent collaboration with U.S. Steel Srbija, for which it makes spare parts.

- We have a specialized team for repairs that is at the service of the forge 24 hours a day. Also, we make spare parts and do the repairs for mines and steam power plants – says our interlocutor.

In the summer period, when there is no much work on railway systems, Inter-Mehanika is focused on production of equipment for kids playgrounds, parks, as well as equipment for sports fields. Đurđević points out that all playgrounds for kids in Belgrade in 2004 were equipped with Inter-Mehanika's products.

Biomass furnaces for heating apartments

In association with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, Inter-Mehanika has developed the program for production of biomass furnaces of 30 to 1,000 kW. The unit with 30 employees is situated in Skorenovac near Kovin where the company also plans to start production of biomass pellet machines.

- We will apply for the funds of the Capital Investments Fund of Vojvodina to invest them in further development of our range of furnaces for burning biomass. That would enable creation of 15 new jobs.

Our interlocutor says that the sales of these furnaces are going well in rural areas where they are used for heating facilities and hothouses, but she also says that the new production that Inter-Mehanika plans to start will enable their use in the city areas as well.

Custom-made vessels

The product portfolio of Inter-Mehanika also includes vessels - motor yachts and boats up to 15 meters long.

- Demand for small boats, so-called "podunavci", which are 5.5 to 6 meters long, is especially high during the summer. We usually sell 2 or 3 vessels at the International Sailing Fair in Belgrade, and we are about to deliver one boat to a customer in Senta. We also make custom-made vessels – says Ružica Đurđević and adds that the company has built a ship to the order of a client from Herceg Novi, who asked that the boat for 80 passengers has a glass platform in the middle so the passengers sitting on both sides can watch the sea.

Inter-Mehanika is the laureate of this year's Business Partner award.
