The Danube harbors to become public domain

Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar
Djelic stated today that the drafting of the Danube strategy was an
excellent opportunity to bring order into that sector in Serbia,
underlining that, according to the law that was being composed, harbors
on the Danube would become public domain.
Djelic said that the Danube strategy implied the adoption of a new law
which would help to improve harbor management, because the banks of the
Danube River would be made public domain, in line with the EU standards. The
banks will be leased out through concessions and harbor operators will
be private entities, he specified.
Recalling that legal changes
in this sense have already been made, he declared that turning this land
into public domain will not harm anyone's private interests because
Serbia needs domestic capital to revive the Danube. The domestic legal
system must respect private property, he underlined.
According to him, at the latest conference on the Danube strategy, held in Constanta, Romania, Serbia's initiative to hold the session regarding the funding of this project on September 27 in Belgrade was accepted.
