Basketball Club Partizan gets training center of 1,600 sqm in 2011

Belgrade Mayor Dragan Đilas and Serbian Sports Minister Snežana Samardžić-Marković signed the Agrement yesterday (June 10, 2010) in Old Palace on construction of a training center for the needs of basketball club Partizan. This sports facility will be built in the vicinity of Pionir sports hall. Construction should start in late 2010 and end in 2011.

– The City of Belgrade has been helping BC Partizan over the last two years because this club has become a sports institution, because its players have the name of our city on their jerseys, and because, thanks to their successes, lot of people are coming to Belgrade. It will be great if, in addition to the City, businessmen start helping successful clubs, and maybe one day we manage to get to host the Euroleague final tournament. The City of Belgrade will keep helping other clubs whose name, tradition and potential deserve that – said Mayor Dragan Đilas.

According to the agreement that was signed today, the City of Belgrade will provide a building land and all necessary permits, and it will co-finance the building land organization. The Ministry of Sports and Youth will finance elaboration of the main project and construction works, and it will also co-finance the building land organization. The surface of the training center will be about 1,600 square meters.

– Basketball club Partizan meets all conditions from the Sports Development Strategy that we've adopted. We are of the opinion that it is reasonable to invest in top sports because they promote the cultural identity of the nation they come from. This project is a good example of partnership between the Ministry of Sports, the City of Belgrade, and a top sport club – said Snežana Samardžić-Marković.

The President of BC Partizan, Predrag Danilović, expressed gratitude to the City and the Ministry for their help and pointed out that the new training center would be used by over 100 young basketball players from all teams.
