Western Balkans Without Roaming from July 1 – A Step Toward Lowering Prices of Roaming with EU

The abolition of roaming in the Western Balkans on July 1 this year is a step closer to lowering the prices of roaming with the European Union, assessed the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Majlinda Bregu.

She said that the signing of the Agreement on the Lowering of Roaming Prices in the Western Balkans in April 2019 was a historical achievement and one of the main results of the Digital Agenda for the Western Balkans.

– The new regime of roaming in the Western Balkans from July 1, 2021, is a step closer to a lowering of the prices of roaming with the EU – Bregu emphasized this Tuesday at the meeting of the Working Group of the Western Balkans for the Roaming Policy.

The costs of roaming between the Western Balkans and the European Union are huge and are not based on market conditions. Due to the extremely high roaming prices, the residents of the region pay for the same service four times more than the residents of the European Union.

– Our next step is to lower the prices of roaming between the Western Balkans and the European Union, which will require full dedication from all the involved actors, especially the telecom operators, as well as the equally important technical support from the European Commission, the General Directorate for Communication Networks, Content and Technologies and the General Directorate for the Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, as well as the highest officials from the region – Bregu announced.
