Turkey Interested in Serbian Blueberries, Raspberries and Strawberries

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, state secretary at the ministry, Senad Mahmutovic, and the director of the ministry’s Plant Protection Directorate, Nebojsa Milosavljevic, talked at the seat of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Belgrade with the agency’s director for Serbia, Cagla Gultekin Tosbat, about the cooperation up till then and the plans for the future, the ministry announced. The talks focused on the export of raspberries and blueberries and the production of industrial strawberries. The two ministries also discussed these topics at the recent meeting in Istanbul.

In 2019, Serbia exported 2,530 tons worth EUR 7.2 million.

– In Serbia, blueberries grew on 1,612 hectares in 2019, and we expect the numbers concerning the production and the areas to be much bigger for 2020, as a substantial number of producers invested in blueberries, and as the competent ministry we subsidize these investments.

Mahmutovic said that he expected the export of fruit to grow further and reminded that, in the preceding three years, good results had been recorded when it comes to the export of raspberries. According to the latest data, the export of the Serbian strategic fruit exceeded EUR 215 million in 2019.

Considering the good price caused by the high demand in the world, an even better result can be expected.
