The second Small Grants International Call is published under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and it is part of the “Capacity Building and Finance for National and Local Action on Climate and Biodiversity” project. The call for project proposals, the selection process, and the disbursement of funds are handled by GIZ, Vladimir Spasić writes for Balkan Green Energy News.
The deadline for applications is February 9, 2021.
The call is offering a grant of EUR 60,000-100,000 for projects in the following areas:
– Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions
– Adapting to the effects of climate change
– Conservation of natural carbon sinks / REDD
– Conservation of biodiversity.
The ceiling can eventually be raised to EUR 200,000 for projects involving mitigation and adaptation actions. The duration of the projects must be between 6 months and 2 years.
The grant is reserved for non-profit organizations or for-profit organizations offering a non-profit project.
To be eligible, the project must be carried out in a country on the DAC ODA list drafted by OECD.
According to the organizers, a high number of project proposals is expected. Only a limited number of project proposals can be chosen during each of the upcoming calls for proposals (approximately 20-35 per year), according to the funding information (IKI Small Grants).
The focus of the IKI Small Grants scheme is to provide support to the implementation of both the United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in enacting the Paris Agreement as well as to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in addressing the global loss of biodiversity (Aichi Targets and the goals of the future post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework).
