Serbian Ambassador of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic and Ambassador of China to Serbia Chen Bo signed the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation regarding rail vehicles on January 6.

This memorandum, signed between the Republic of Serbia, the company Srbija Voz a.d. and the companies China Railway International Co., LTD and CRRC Corporation Limited, agrees the cooperation and sets the foundations for the potential procurement of electric-engine trains that run at 200 km/h, for the purposes of organization of passenger traffic on the future Belgrade Center-Novi Sad-Subotica high-speed railway.

Momirovic pointed out that the document was a continuation of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation in Infrastructure from 2009.

The minister expressed his gratitude for the overall support that China provides when it comes to an efficient and timely realization of transport infrastructure projects in Serbia.

The ambassador underlined that both the Chinese and the Serbian side had made great efforts for the project of the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway to progress at a steady, uninterrupted pace and added that great progress was apparent in the preceding two months at the construction site.

– The signing of the memorandum opens new space for our cooperation in transport. China has the most developed technology for the production of high-speed trains and Chinese companies are ready to share their high technology with Serbian partners and give their contribution to the economic development of Serbia – she said.

This memorandum also envisages the possibility of cooperation on establishing a technical center for research and development, a center for training, a center for maintenance and, finally, a center for the production of rail vehicles, in line with the purposes of the projects of cooperation and the market potential, which is of remarkable importance for the development of rail transport in Serbia and the accompanying rail industry as a whole, according to the website of the Government of Serbia.
