The Russian store chain MERE is soon to complete all the necessary procedures for the purchase of locations in several Greek cities where it plans to start its expansion. As has already been announced exclusively on the Retail Serbia portal, the Russian company plans to open its discount stores in Serbia as well.

MERE, known in its parent market as Svetofor, is completing the negotiations about the locations in Greece where it plans to make an expansion. The company has already set locations in Athens, Thessaloniki, Larissa and several other cities where it plans to open its first discount stores.

– There are no hidden costs, the prices listed in the contract are the ones paid to the ordering party. MERE is looking for locations in cities with over 25,000 residents, in industrial zones or close to busy roads. The net retail area of our facilities is 650 to 1,100 square meters. The facility also needs to have at least ten parking spaces – the Russian branch in Greece says.

As it was officially announced recently, the largest Russian discount store chain plans to expand to the Serbian market as well. The plan of the Russian company is to have at least 100 discount markets, each of around 1,000 square meters. MERE Serbia has pointed out that they will work directly with producers, under strict quality control and with a low margin.

In the upcoming years, MERE will expand globally by entering a large number of European markets, including Italy, France, Great Britain, and they also plan to enter the U.S. market. The company already operates in Romania, Germany, Poland, Lithuania...

Even though it's not present in the capital of Russia, MERE/Svetofor is one of the largest retail chains, with over 1,500 stores. Representatives of this trade group rarely appear in the media, and before entering the German market they said they were looking to work peacefully and without much public presence.
