Second barracks in Subotica's possession - city to build industrial park at 53 ha of land

(Bratislav Pejković and Saša Vučinić)
The Mayor of Subotica, Saša Vučinić, and the CEO of the Directorate for Property, Bratislav Pejković, have signed the sales contract on takeover of military property, which will be used for formation of an industrial park. The property includes 53 ha of land near Loher, as well as so-called Second barracks and the polygon behind it. The contract ancipates the repayment deadline of 120 days, and its value amounts to about 180m RSD.
When asked how the City would collect the necessary funds for repayment of that investment, Saša Vučinić said:
- Concerning the fact that we have some budget problems, we will take a long-term banking loan. The longer the repayment and grace period, the better, since this is the first time we invest in something that should bring profit to this city. I think that this is the most significant project in the city over the last 20 years.
He explained that the City would repay the debt of about 178m RSD within four months.
- Reaching the agreement with the ministries of defense and agriculture, the city came into possession of 200 ha, that is, 2m square meters of building land. Subotica will no longer have a problem to attract investors, and the investment in improvement of infrastructure around the barracks is in the pipeline as well. I think that we finished one of the most important projects in the city. What is important are the investments such as filter, swimming pool and National Theater, but we are now able to offer the land to investors, we have a space for construction of an industrial park, which also opens the possibility for creation of new jobs. We are very satisfied with what has been done – said Vučinić.
In the meantime, until the City Assembly makes the decision on crediting, the Mayor says that the local self-government is already working on elaboration of planning documentation and on the procedure of public procurement that includes the banking loan.
