At a session held on Monday, the Government of Montenegro considered and defined the draft amendments to the Spatial Urban Plan of the Municipality of Ulcinj, with a program of public discussion in a period of 15 work days. The occasion for the amendment to the SUP is the decision of the Government of Montenegro on a long-term lease of the land in the Briska Gora location for the exploitation of solar energy and construction of solar system of installed power of over 200 MW.

– The agreement on the lease of state-owned land defines the construction of a solar plant in two phases – Phase I of minimum installed power of 50 MW and Phase II of a total planned installed power of over 200 MW. The land for the construction of the solar power plant has been leased to the consortium consisting of Elektroprivreda (EPCG), the Finnish Fortum and the company Sterling and Wilson – the government said.

As said, the objective of the amendments to the SUP is to increase the planned capacities for exploitation of solar power and to secure the planning requirements for the realization of the agreement on the lease of state-owned land. The concept of the amendments to the SUP proposes an increase of the zone for the construction of the solar power plant from 467 ha to 1,019 ha, that is, of the capacity of the solar power plant from 118 MW to 262 MW.

The construction of the solar power plant in the Briska Gora location was announced earlier, and, according to the announcements, it will be the largest power plant in Montenegro and one of the largest plants of its kind in Europe.

– The investment is worth EUR 200 million. What's characteristic for this plant is that there will be no incentives for it. Instead, the produced energy will be sold at a market price – Velimirka Perisic, a representative of Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, said earlier.
