Airline companies will not be required to leave empty seats in aircraft for the purpose of maintaining personal distance between passengers, but travelers on flights within the European Union will have to wear masks in aircraft and at airports, according to the EU's plans to revive the travel industry.

The European Commission has said that airline companies will need to reduce the risk of infection, which could be achieved through an advanced hospital system of air filtering, using personal protective equipment and restricting movement.

It is also recommended to reorganize the procedure of check-ins and the handling of luggage at airports, so as to avoid crowding.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has already recommended to have passengers' temperature taken before boarding and to have personal data collected so as to enable the following of passengers' contacts, as well as to have the terminals and the equipment disinfected.
