When the Government of Serbia adopts the pertinent decision, the competent services in Belgrade will start reinstating the public transport gradually, said the president of the City Assembly, Nikola Nikodijevic, adding that the public transport would not be reinstated at once, but in line with the growth of economic activities.

Nikodijevic also said that new rules would apply, and the one that has drawn the most public attention is the one about “maintaining the distance”. As public transport vehicles in the capital of Serbia are usually very crowded, it's not clear how this is to be carried out or controlled.

One possible way is to expand the rolling stock, but this has not been confirmed by the officials.

– New rules will apply in the public transport vehicles, proscribed in cooperation with the Public Health Institute, so that the passengers and the GSP employees would be protected. We will have to get used to the new precautionary measures of entering and exiting the vehicle through a single door, maintaining the distance and using protective equipment. It will all be a part of the new code of conduct in the public transport. We are now waiting for assessments of epidemiologists and the decision of the Government of Serbia – Nikodijevic said on TV Pink.

As Kurir writes, the public transport in Belgrade is expected to be reinstated in mid-May, with strict measures.

– It will first be available only to workers, not to pupils, students and pensioners. The rules of the Public Health Institute say that no one can enter a bus without a facemask, whereas drivers and ticket inspectors are obliged to wear mask, visors and gloves. Tickets cannot be bought from the driver, as they will be separated by a panel or a foil. Passengers can only enter through one door and exit through another. A distance will also be proscribed, and during May, sitting in pairs will be forbidden and passengers will only be able to occupy each second seat – the daily's source says.
