Reconstruction of airports in Skopje and Ohrid to start in March

- Reconstruction of the airports in Skopje and Ohrid will start on March 2nd, 2010 - Sani Shener, the CEO of TAV Holding that got the concessions for Macedonian airports, told Turkish media.
At the same time, people from Macedonian Government announced that the Turkish company was allowed to prolong the commencement of construction of the cargo airport in Štip, while the reconstruction of the airports in Skopje and Ohrid would start in 2010.
Construction of the cargo airport is postponed for several years, and A1 reminds that other companies that were interested in the concessions gave up the project because they found construction of the cargo airport in Štip non-profitable.
Turkish TAV got the concessions for Macedonian airport on period of 20 years, but it needs to reconstruct and modernize them and invest about 200m EUR in them. With the explanation that they wait for the money to arrive from European banks, the Turks have already postponed the commencement of reconstruction of the airports on two occasions.
