According to the Law on Verification of Transient Agreement with EU, the customs duties on import of automobiles from the countries-members will amount to 7.5% starting from January 1st, instead of current 10%.

According to that Law, automobiles belong to the group of very sensitive products, which means that the customs duty should drop to 7.5% on January 1st, 2010, to 5% in early 2011, to 2.5% on January 1st, 2012, and it should be revoked on the first day of year 2013.

The estimates of a member of the Association of Vehicle Importers, Milan Belin, are that the lowering of the customs duties by about 2.5% should lower the price of imported automobile worth about 10,000 EUR by about 100 EUR.

- For example, at the beginning of the year, when the customs duty was lowered from 20 to 10%, the prices of automobiles dropped by average of 500 to 600 EUR - he told Tanjug earlier.

Belin pointed out that the real effects of revoking of customs duties on import of automobiles from EU can be expected in 2014.

By the way, about 40,000 vehicles were sold in Serbia in 2009, which is about 30% less than in 2008.
