– Scientists from China have published a research paper according to which stem cells can help patients with severe coronavirus symptoms, bringing them to a less severe state and helping them survive the virus – Dr Dzihan Abazovic, the vice president of the Association for Regenerative Medicine and Biological Therapy, said on TV Prva.
Abazovic pointed out that stem cells have a wide application and that they have been used in the past ten years or so in cases of active grave diseases with symptoms similar to the final stages of coronavirus, which is where the idea came from.
– In the stadiums which coronavirus causes in people, stem cells can improve the immune system and get it to work better with the help of some signal molecules, reducing the severity of the symptoms – Abazovic said.
He pointed out that stem cells do not have to come from the patient and that they are produced in labs in various ways – from the bone marrow, umbilical cords, blood.
– For now, the therapies are being implemented in China, Germany and France – Abazovic said and added that, in Serbia, it's only possible in theory for the time being, but that efforts will certainly be made toward it and that positive results are expected.
