Beginning with March 23, all public notary offices in Serbia are open from 9 am to 3 pm, in line with the new recommendations of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia in the conditions of the state of emergency due to the epidemic in the country, the Chamber of Public Notaries of Serbia announced.

– Public notary offices also continue to comply with the recommendations adopted on March 17, when the authorization of signatures, manuscripts and transcripts was stopped, except in urgent cases. In such cases, the parties need to file a request for the urgent execution of this activity by email or regular mail to a public notary office – the Chamber says, as reported by Hristov Consulting.

The announcement says that public notaries will continue carrying out the solemnization of contracts, preparing notary deeds and records, and that these activities can only be done between 9 am and 3 pm.

– The offices schedule these activities with a span of at least an hour and the necessary documentation is received by email whenever possible. Access to public notary offices is enabled exclusively to the parties taking part in the procedure – it is said.

A single counter with a limited number of people that can approach it at a time has been provided by public notary offices for receiving documentation in paper form.

It is emphasized that, during the state of emergency, public notaries will not schedule hearings in the procedures of preparing death certificates, probate proceedings and other extra-judicial proceedings entrusted to public notaries by courts and requiring the presence of the parties. Also, the already scheduled hearings in these procedures will be postponed, except in cases requiring urgent action and not jeopardizing the specially protected population categories.

– In line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Justice, public notaries will not be carrying out official activities outside their offices for an indefinite period of time, except in urgent cases – the Chamber says in its announcement.
