Agreement on cooperation signed between Serbia and Kuwait


- Ministers of foreign affairs of Serbia and Kuwait, Vuk Jeremić and sheik Mohamed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, signed the Agreement on cooperation between the two countries last night (December 23, 2009), which opens the way for Kuwait's investments in Serbia, as well as the Agreement on reprogramming Serbia's debt to that country - it is stated on the website of the Government of Serbia.
Jeremić said at the press conference in Kuwait, after he signed the agreements, that the governments of the two countries would closely cooperation and that Serbia would like to establish truly good relations and connections with Kuwait in the future, the same as few decades ago.
He said that he spoke to the officials of Kuwait about deepening of cooperation in field of defense, and he reminded that, when Iraq had occupied that country, Serbia had been Kuwait's biggest supplier of military equipment.
The Minister added that they also talked about cooperation in the fields of education and health care, and he pointed to the fact that the two countries had always been friends in the field of culture as well.
Jeremić said that he expressed gratitude to Kuwait on behalf of Serbia during the meeting with Al-Sabah for the country's decision not to acknowledge one-sided declaration of independence of Kosovo and Metohia.
Al-Sabah pointed out that Kuwait wanted to have friendly relations with Serbia, just like it had had with former Yugoslavia, and he repeated the position of his country that all disputable issue in the region should be resolved peacefully.
He supported the proposal of Serbia that the 50th anniversary since the Movement of Non-Alligned Countries was founded be celebrated in Belgrade where that Movement was founded in 1961.
Upon his arrival in Kuwait, Jeremić met the Emir of that country and had the meeting late last night with the Commander of the General Staff of the Army of Kuwait.
