On the occasion of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's statement that a ban on the import of Euro 3-engine vehicles was being considered, the daily writes that cars with this engine standard were produced between 2000 and 2005, when the Euro 4 standard was implemented, lasting between 2006 and 2009.
These cars make up around 60% of all registered vehicles.
The daily notes that drivers in Serbia could still drive their Euro 3 cars, but that the import of used vehicles with such engines would be banned.
In line with the regulations on motor vehicle tests, which came into effect in 2018, owners are given three years to bring their vehicles in line with the environmental norms that applied at the moment the vehicle was produced. The law says that, in 2021, the registration of a vehicle which emits more harmful gases than proscribed for that model will no longer be allowed.
According to unofficial data available to Novosti, as many as 1.2 million vehicles, of slightly more than the two million registered last year, do not comply with these regulations and may fail the motor vehicle tests in 2021.
