Reconstruction of Evangelical Church in Maglic to begin on September 2 – Possibility of multifunctional space

The first phase of the works on the reconstruction of the Evangelical Church in Maglic, financed by the Ministry of Culture and Information, begins on September 2.

The president of the municipality of Backi Petrovac, Srdjan Simic, said that the first phase entails exterior development and the replacement of the carpentry and the roof.

The project of interior development has also been prepared as the second phase of the works, due to which a meeting was recently held in Backi Petrovac with representatives of the German town of Kirchheim unter Teck and a cultural heritage association from Kirchheim.

The project pays special attention to acoustics, as there is a possibility of making the space multifunctional, suitable for concerts, museum exhibits or international festivals.

The Evangelical Church celebrates its 200th anniversary next year.

This year, the municipality got RSD 15 million for the exterior reconstruction from the Ministry of Culture and Information, as the building has deteriorated so far as to be a danger to the citizens, considering the fact that no works have been done for a number of years.

– Our partnership with the German town is based on mutual obligations, among which is the reconstruction of the German church, which is a symbol of the life of the German community in Maglic until 1945. They have formed an international association which deals exclusively with the reconstruction of this church and they have promised that they will donate EUR 40,000 for the reconstruction this year – Simic said.
