Chinese doctors’ research has shown that we should drink three cups of coffee a day, with the exception of pregnant women, who should avoid the drink due to its harmful effects on the baby’s liver.

For all others, it is believed that coffee has a positive effect on the health. Six reasons are cited why we should drink three cups of coffee a day, Vecernje Novosti writes.

Primarily, those who drink coffee live longer. This is the result of more than 20 surveys, in which nearly a million people took part. People who drink coffee are 14% less likely to die prematurely of various diseases. Drinking only one coffee a day reduces this risk by 8%.

Coffee also reduces the risk of liver cancer, thanks to kahweol and cafestol, two compounds it contains. It regulates the liver’s biochemical processes and promotes the excretion of toxins, especially aflatoxin.

Coffee aficionados are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Coffee contains chlorogenic acid, which advances glucose metabolism and increases sensitivity to insulin, as well as caffeic acid, which helps muscles use the glucose from blood more efficiently. Each cup of coffee we drink during the day increases the percentage of protection from this disease.

Coffee is also good for the heart. Although it raises the blood pressure, it is not connected to the occurrence of heart problems. Some studies show that those who drink coffee regularly are less likely to develop heart diseases.

In addition to burning fats, caffeine also improves one’s physical abilities. It increases the level of adrenaline, making the organism more capable of exertion and allowing it to move more quickly and easily.

A Harvard study has shown that women who drink three cups of coffee a day are 20% less like to develop depression.
