Power plant based on communal waste - cooperation between "Electric Power Company of Serbia" and City of Užice

- On September 7th, City of Užice and public company "Electric Power Company of Serbia" (EPS) will sign the memorandum of cooperation, in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Energy, for realization of the project for construction of power plant for production of electric energy from communal waste - Jovan Marković, the Mayor of Užice, announced.

- Užice, in which the first "electric factory" in Serbia, and the third of the kind in the world, was built according to Tesla's principles of poliphase electricity on the Đetina river 109 years ago, is going to obtain the first power plant in the Balkans that will be using waste as fuel - said Marković.

- The Ministry of Energy and EPS have backed our idea to include a burning room, of which energy would be used for production of electric energy, within the future regional dump "Duboko", which is being built by nine municipalities of the region of Zlatibor and the Moravica region, and is expected to be put in operation in 2010 - he added.

According to the words of the Mayor of Užice, construction of the power plant based on advanced technology of incineration, which uses solid communal waste as fuel, would bring double benefit - the life of the dump would be prolonged, and cheap electric energy would be obtained.

Marković said that some donors from Germany and Luxembourg had promised to support realization of that project.
