The Government of Serbia has adopted the Draft Law on the Confirmation of the Founding Act of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), which currently has 93 member-states.

Among them are also countries from outside the Asian-Pacific region, such as Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Spain and others.

The membership in this organization will provide Serbia with access to favorable credits for the realization of priority projects, the Government’s PR office says in a press release.

In December 2018, the Board of Governors of the AIIB, headquartered in Beijing, approved Serbia’s membership request.

The Board of Governors of the AIIB approved the membership of a total of six countries – Serbia, Algeria, Ghana, Libya, Morocco and Togo, whereby the total number of members reached 93.

These six members will officially join the AIIB when all the necessary procedures in all countries are finished and when the first capital installment is deposited at the bank.

New members will get shares from the package of undistributed shares of the AIIB.

In three years, the number of AIIB members has gone from 57 founding member-states to 93 member-states from nearly all continents.

The Founding Act was signed by 57 countries before the bank officially started operating in January 2016.
