As announced on the website of the Directorate for National Reference Laboratories, Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 May 2018 on organic production and labeling of organic products and repealing Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 has been adopted.

The new decree will be implemented on January 1, 2021, and will simplify the rules of the production and further harmonize them through the cancellation of exemptions and exceptions. Also, the control system will be strengthened thanks to the stricter precautionary measures and more extensive risk-based checks along the entire supply chain.

Producers in third countries will need to comply with the same rules as producers in the EU, and the new regulations will pertain to a more extensive list of products and additional rules of production.

Certification will be facilitated for small farmers, thanks to a new system of group certifications, and the regulations also aim to reduce the risk of accidental contamination by pesticides.
