The mounting of the roof on the new diplomatic representation of Germany in Serbia, the construction of which began five months ago, was officially marked on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the old address of the Germany embassy in Kneza Milosa Street in Belgrade.

Germany Ambassador to Serbia Thomas Schieb stated that “with the construction of this facility, the German embassy is returning to the political center in Belgrade”.

Ludger Kremer of the Construction Department at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community of Germany, the investor in this project, pointed out that it was rare for the laying of the foundation stone and the mounting of the roof to be done within a single year.

He reminded that the five-storey building was designed by the Karlundp studio from Munich and added that the visa department would be located in it as well, upon completion.

Mayor of Belgrade Zoran Radojicic said that they laying of the foundation stone had in a way symbolized the beginning of his mandate and said that he hoped that it would be as successful as the construction of the German embassy building.

He announced that the Kneza Milosa Street would be reconstructed in the near future and noted that the City would pay attention to both aesthetics and safety regarding the new embassy building.

Radojicic emphasized the successful cooperation of Serbia and Germany and added that over 50 German companies operated in the country at the moment. He reminded that the City successfully solved social issues together with the German Embassy and the German organization for international cooperation (GIZ), citing the aid program for 145 Romani families.

– I hope that this new building will be the site of many more successful agreements – the mayor said.

The total investment in the facility amounts to EUR 19.5 million. It takes up a gross area of around 5,100 m2, and the contractor is Belgrade-based Gradjevinar.

As Radmila Milovic Jovanovic, the manager of this project at Gradjevinar, told eKapija, the next steps are to carry out facade works and equip the facility.

– We will be installing windows, doors and a natural-stone ventilated facade, and this will be followed by finishing works in the interior – Milovic Jovanovic says.

She says that Gradjevinar's long-term, reputable partners in all the projects they've done so far will also be put in charge of these works.

She announced the completion of all works and the handing over of the facility in January 2020.
