Montenegro to provide citizenship for investments beginning with January 1, 2019

The program for obtaining Montenegrin citizenship through investments will last for three years, beginning with January 1, 2019, and up to 2,000 requests can be accepted in that period, the Government of Montenegro decided, as reported by Beta.

Eligible candidates are foreigners not convicted in Montenegro or another state and rated positively by an agent for the assessment of international suitability, including a positive assessment of the origin of the money meant for the payment and the investments.

Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simovic says that the Government has adopted the decision aiming to accelerate economic development and the attracting of foreign investments, which, according to him, will lead to new jobs as well.

Montenegrin Minister of Sustainable Development and Tourism Pavle Radulovic said that the money would be paid to a special fund, which will be used to finance the construction of infrastructure in less developed municipalities in the country's north.

– Applicants need to meet the criterion of paying the state EUR 450,000 in the Coastal Region and Podgorica, EUR 250,000 in the Northern Region and in the Central Region (Podgorica excluded), and EUR 100,000 meant for less developed areas. Furthermore, applicants need to pay EUR 15,000 for themselves, EUR 10,000 for each of the maximum of four family members and EUR 50,000 for each next family member – Radulovic said.

He also answered the press that he saw no reason for the names of the investors who obtain citizenship through investments not to be available to the public.
