Pilot project for Geographic Information System in five cities of Serbia

German Organization for Technical Assistance (GTZ) is implementing pilot project for Geographic Information System (GIS) in five cities and municipalities in Serbia - Subotica, Sombor, Valjevo, Kragujevac and Niš.
Branko Begović from GTZ says that Subotica should serve as an example of good application of GIS in Serbia:
- So far, we have invested 2.7m EUR in the project. We will have a meeting in Subotica with the aim of developing the project and establishing cooperation with educational institutions for the sake of presentation of functions and practical use of GIS. Implementation of the project will end on June 30th, 2009, and it will, most probably, be resumed in different form in January 2010. We deliberately selected these five cities because they have the opportunity to become the centers for development of local self-governments.
Geographic Information System in Subotica was put in operation in 2004 in association with GTZ and the University of Electrical Engineering in Munich, as well as in cooperation with the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade.
