What does the leaving of large European telecoms from the Balkans bring? – Telekom Srpska in negotiations in B&H

The withdrawal of Deutsche Telekom from Telekom Albania is the latest such event. Previously, Norway’s Telenor left Serbia by selling its business to the Czech PPF Group, and Telekom Slovenia definitely gave up on its former regional ambitions, first by leaving Macedonia, and then by selling Blicnet.
The leaving of large companies makes room for companies from the region to expand in the Balkans. Telekom Srbija, which is competing to take over Telekom Albania, and which has already acquired Logosoft, TelRad Net and Blicnet through its branch in B&H, has obviously spotted this opportunity.
The news that Telekom Srpska is currently negotiating with two operators in B&H further confirms the strategy of Telekom Srbija to turn itself in the leading telecom operators in the countries of the region.
The telecom business is in a crisis worldwide, but some see an opportunity there.
Certain experts say that the leaving of large European telecoms from the region is a consequence of the way business is done in the Balkans.
When it comes to the B&H market, the leading telecom operator, BH Telecom, has been passive, which was exacerbated by the authorities’ sucking out the profit to the federal budget.
While Telekom Srpska threatens to exceed BH Telecom in profit, the leading Sarajevo-based operator is apparently turning from a potential hunter into the prey, Indikator.ba estimates.
When Indikator asked the former director Nedzad Residbegovic why BH Telecom is not making acquisitions n the market, although it has the capital, while its competitors are, he said that “there are no adequate opportunities”.
The latest events, however, show that opportunities are there and that Telekom Srpska is using them very well in B&H.
