Serbia uses fewer than 50 of 800 locations for construction of small hydro power plants

(Illustration) Of around 800 locations for the construction of mini hydro power plants, Serbia has not used even 50, which is a great shame, Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic stated yesterday.

The minister cited the data responding to the question whether she will support Minister of Environment Goran Trivan, who has announced that he will amend the law on the protection of nature, that is, that he will remove the article which allows the construction of small hydro power plants in protected areas.

The minister noted that the Ministry of Construction was the final instance in the issuance of construction permits for the construction of mini hydro power plants, after all the participants in the process have already given their approval and if there are no other obstacles.

– It is within Trivan’s rights to amend the laws in the field he’s in charge of and I do not oppose anything that can improve the environment – the minister said.
