Hisense to continue investing in Gorenje – Production facilities for certain types of refrigerators to move from Slovenia to Serbia soon

The Slovenian company Gorenje is now officially owned by the Chinese group Hisense, but this doesn't worry the employees at the refrigerator and freezer plant in Valjevo. They believe that Gorenje will remain one of the leaders in the production of home appliances and that the factory in Valjevo, like the other two, in Zajecar and Stara Pazova, which produce washing machines and boilers respectively, will continue operating as usual.

Hisense has bought a 94% stake in Gorenje Velenje, at EUR 12 per share. The value of Gorenje, which has 11,000 workers in Slovenia, Serbia and the Czech Republic, as well as development centers in the Netherlands, Sweden, Slovenia and the Czech Republic, has thereby been estimated at EUR 293 million. The Chinese company produces electrical devices and has around 75,000 employees worldwide.

– We've been notified that the Chinese company has announced further announcements and that it will keep the name and the seat of Gorenje – say the employees at the Gorenje plant in Valjevo.

– They also guarantee that Gorenje will become a research and development center, which provides additional security for us employees. Furthermore, it is also important that Gorenje will also be Hisense's production center in Europe, which means that, along with the existing ones, new jobs will be created, of course, in Gorenje's factories in Serbia too. We do not fear for our jobs, as Hisense is a huge company, with seven times as many employees as Gorenje.

The factory of cooling devices in Valjevo has been operating for 13 years and has more than 1,500 employees. More than five million refrigerators have been produced there and put in the markets of Serbia, Europe and the world so far.

– Recently, the facility for the production of doors for oldtimer refrigerators, very popular in all markets, has been moved from Slovenia to the Valjevo plant – the employees in Valjevo say and add that, as announced, the facility for the production of certain refrigerator models, so far produced in Slovenia, will also be moved to Valjevo soon.
