Seventy years after the initial idea, the route from Zemun to Block 45 will finally feature six lanes beginning with 2020. The plan is for 580 meters of traffic routes to be built, which will connect the Nikole Tesle Boulevard with the Vladimira Popovica Boulevard – Belgrade City Architect Milutin Folic told Novosti.

The tender will open next year, and the works should start in 2020.

According to some estimates, the project would cost EUR 4.8 million and it would also be completed towards the end of 2020.

– Due to the lack of a traffic connection, there are frequent jams in this part of the city. It is only when this segment is completed that we will have a corridor from Zemun to Block 45. Something similar was done last year when we were expanding Tosin Bunar – Folic explains.

Folic emphasizes that the construction of these 250 meters, which features facilities to be demolished, is necessary. The location of the Old Sava Bridge will feature a new bridge with a much larger transport capacity. In order for vehicles arriving from the city's center not to cause traffic jams, this new segment of the Vladimira Popovica Blvd will provide room for all those heading for Usce, the Palace of Serbia and further, to Zemun.

– The construction of the new bridge will reduce the load carried by Branko's Bridge. Once the tunnel between the Sava and the Danube amphitheaters is built, this corridor through Staro Sajmiste will be one of the busiest routes in the city – Folic explains.

The construction of this part of the Vladimira Popovica Blvd will require the development of the Zemun Road and the moving of the tram tracks.
