Serbia has realized projects worth EUR 7 billion with the European Investments Bank in the past ten years, and projects worth a billion euros are in progress, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said and announced the realization of a range of new ones, among which is the reconstruction of the Clinical Center of Serbia, which will begin in June.

Following a conversation with Werner Hoyer, President of the EIB, the prime minister told the press at the Government of Serbia that the projects realized with that financial institution were the best indicator of how important the EU is for the country.

As an example of the good cooperation between the EIB and Serbia, Brnabic cited the reconstruction of the Clinical Center of Nis, in which EUR 52 million was invested, as well as the reconstruction of other health centers which is yet to restart.

– This June, we will start reconstructing the Clinical Center of Serbia, and then we will work on other clinical centers as well. In addition to healthcare, we are also working together on several projects in the field of IT industry, research, innovations, startup projects... Those projects are worth around EUR 65 million – Brnabic said.

Projects related to local infrastructure, she said, pertain to water supply and waste waters primarily and are worth EUR 50 million.

– The first next big priority is the Nis-Merdare-Pristina-Tirana-Durres highway and we've already started preparing the documentation – the prime minister said.

She also mentioned the School Connectivity project, worth EUR 70 million, which is expected to start by the end of the year.

– We did what we could as a government, we connected primary schools and provided them with an internet connection, we continued to do the same with secondary schools, launched the electronic grade book and digital school books – Brnabic said and added that the talks with the European Investment Bank would soon end, that the best offer would be chosen and that the implementation would start.

Hoyer said that he saw how much Serbia had progressed on its road to the EU, but also in other fields, and underlined that the EIB would not be lending money and financing projects in a country it doesn't trust.
