Serbia technically ready for opening of new chapters in June – EC progress report on April 17

Serbian Minister of European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic stated on Friday, March 23, 2018, that Serbia was ready for the opening of five negotiation chapters – 33 (Financial and Budgetary Provisions), 9 (Financial Services), 13 (Fisheries), 18 (Statistics) and 17 (Economic and Monetary Policy).

In her statement for Tanjug, Joksimovic specified that Serbia was technically ready to open those chapters, that is, that the negotiation positions for them had been officially submitted to the head of the EU.

As the official website of the government reports, she emphasized that the EU member states were to deliberate on the opening of the chapters after the publication of the annual report on Serbia's progress, which the EC is to publish on April 17.

The minister for European integration also underlined that she was maintaining regular contact with the EU institutions and member states and that she had informed EU ambassadors about the overview of Serbia's Eurointegration process that week, aiming to present the results of Serbia's reforms in all relevant fields and to make further progress in the negotiation process with the EU.


Joksimovic expressed expectations that Serbia would be able to open a considerable package of negotiation chapters in June, as is would be a positive political message to the country in the overall more favorable atmosphere for the EU enlargement process, it is added.
