Construction of Lidl in Kikinda begins – Works on Calzedonia facility in progress as well

The construction of the retail facility of the German store chain Lidl officially began in Kikinda on March 1, the Gradski Online portal reports.

The construction of the facility on the corner of the Svetosavksa, Zarka Zrenjanina and Nemanjina Streets has been put in charge of the Novi Sad-based company Graditelj NS.

The current construction works, which are to be followed by the raising of the facility itself, were preceded by the construction of the rainwater system and the reconstruction of the water and sewer network in the Nemanjina Street, from the Prizrenska to the Djoke Radaka Street.

In the summer of 2016, the local self-government set aside around RSD 16.5 million for these works. It was said at the time that the realization of this infrastructural project would create the conditions for the beginning of the construction of the retail outlet of the store chain Lidl.

As the company Lidl Srbija announced at one time, the opening of the retail outlets will not take place before 2018, when they are to open in around twenty towns simultaneously.

This is not the only construction site in Kikinda. A facility of the Italian company Calzedonia is being built in the Industrial Zone. As announced earlier, around 300 people, mostly women, will be employed at the new factory over a period of two to three years.
