The Veterinary Directorate published this information as part of the annual Program of Animal Health Protection Measures, thereby practically confirming, according to the daily's writings, that the EU market will remain blocked for potential exporters of pork meat from Serbia.
At the recently held gathering at the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, the breeders demanded for the vaccination to stop immediately so that Serbia could get the status of a country free of the said disease.
Budimir Plavsic of the Veterinary Directorate stated at the gathering that caution is advised. As he said, the disease has not been detected for eight years now, primarily thanks to the vaccination. However, the virus is still present and might cause the disease to appear.
Plavsic pointed out that, instead of putting a stop to the vaccination in the entire country, zones could be made in which the vaccination is to stop initially. Disease-free zones would gradually spread until the entire Serbia gets the desired status, Politika reports.
